System vocabulary (pg749)

1.central processing unit-the part of the computer that executes instruction,controls the flow of data and performs the arithmetic and logic decision


2.expansion slots-a part of the motherboard that allows the connection of circuit with additinal ports.thes ports let the user attach additional divices to the computer.


3.flash memory-smartmedia and compant flash card store megabytes of data on small,thin cards using a type of chip


4.graphical user interface-lets user point and click on recognizable ,intuitive,and consistent objects.


5.hard drive-is the storage device at the heart of most computer system.


6.hardware-the physical part of a computer system including input,output,storage,and other devices.



7.input device-any device that accepts data from the user , such as a key board or mouse.




8.linux-is powerful operating system for PCs based on unix.



9.MacOS-the operating system of the macintosh line of computer system

24.utility program-the other part of the system software perform "behind the scene duties that are important but not essential tot he basic operation of the system.


25.virus-are small pieces of unauthorized program code written to invade hard drives.


26.windows-microsoft corporation introduced its own graphical user interface.
